Comali producer comes forward to remove scene on Rajinikanth

Following protests from the fans of Rajinikanth, Ishari Ganesh, producer of Jayam Ravi starrer Comali, today came forward to delete a scene that criticised the superstar.

Rajinikanth fans vent their ire on social media against the team behind film Comali, including its lead actor Jayam Ravi, as the trailer appeared to take a swipe at the actor’s much delayed foray into politics.

The trailer of Comali takes a dig at Rajinikanth’s political entry, which has enraged the superstar’s fans. As the film is gearing up to release on August 15, followers of Superstar demanded an apology from the film’s director Pradeep Ranganathan and Jayam Ravi.

The trailer seems to be mocking Rajinikanth’s unending delay in entering politics, which has upset Rajini fans and members of Rajini Makkal Mandram – a fan-based organisation. The upset fans are now demanding that certain scenes, which they think are unkind to Rajinikanth, be cut from the movie.

Rajinikanth had, in fact, announced his entry into politics only in December 2017 and said that he would take the political plunge and contest the next assembly polls in the state whose politics is dominated by Dravidian majors-the DMK and the AIADMK.

However, the trailer shows Ravi’s character, who has been in coma for 14 years, wakes up. His friends point him to a news clip playing on TV which shows actor Rajinikanth assuring fans about his political entry.

On seeing the TV clip, Ravi’s character asks his friends what was the year now. His friends say it is 2016. However, Ravi says it was 1996, suggesting Rajinikanth made the announcement that year and not in 2016.

Makkal Needhi Maiam spokesperson Murali Abbas on social media informed that Kamal Haasan had called up the film’s producer, Ganesh, to express his displeasure about the trailer. Kamal Haasan reportedly told the producer that the trailer was neither in good taste nor enjoyable.

Despite all the comedy tropes, #BoycottComali started trending within hours of the trailer’s release. The director had earlier revealed that Ravi will be sporting nine different looks including that of a British slave and a caveman in Comali, although this has not been shown in the trailer.
