Coimbatore sees record spike of Covid cases

As many as 661 persons tested positive for COVID-19 in Coimbatore district on Friday, taking the tally so far to 29,057. While 4,801 persons from the district were undergoing treatment for COVID-19 on Friday, 517 persons recovered from the disease and returned home.

The Health Department said that six more persons from the district died of the disease, taking the death toll to 408.

The district on Thursday recorded more than 600 fresh cases of Covid-19 for the second time after September 21. It recorded 642 fresh cases taking the total number of cases to 28,388 cases.

As many as 613 patients were discharged, leaving the number of active cases at 4,655. Six patients died, taking the death toll to 402.

The Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation (CCMC) sealed a private laboratory for providing a report that falsely states a 27-year-old person as Covid-19 positive.

The CCMC Commissioner P Kumaravel Pandian issued an order to seal the facility located in Vadavalli after the relatives and friends of the person from Kovil Medu staged a protest.

Tamil Nadu recorded 5,679 positive cases of COVID-19 Friday, bringing the state’s tally to 5,69,370. Among these, Chennai reported 1,193 positive cases, bringing the city’s total to 1,60,926.

Tamil Nadu recorded 72 deaths on Friday, putting the state toll at 9148. 68 of them had succumbed due to comorbidities.
