Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and AIADMK joint coordinator Edappadi K Palaniswami’s mother Thavusayammal passed away at a private hospital in Salem during the early hours of today.
As soon as coming to know about his mother’s demise, Palaniswami left Chennai for Siluvampalayam in Salem district during the wee hours of today.
Palaniswami was scheduled to leave for Thoothukudi today morning for an official visit. It is said Thavusayammal was not keeping well for the past some days.
Only last week, Palaniswami was announced as the Chief Ministerial candidate of the ruling All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam for the 2021 Assembly elections.
Deputy Chief Minister and party coordinator O Pannerselvam announced this at the party headquarters on Wednesday morning in the presence of senior leaders and Ministers ending the unease within the party over the issue since August 15.
Palaniswami, who hails from Salem in the western district of the State, became the Chief Minister in February 2017 under dramatic circumstances after Panneerselvam quit as Chief Minister and the Supreme Court confirmed conviction of V K Sasikala.
