Chief Minister K Palaniswami has expressed concern over a section of college students carrying weapons instead of books and advised them to focus only on education.
Speaking at the post-centenary diamond jubilee celebrations of the University of Madras, he said, “the future of the country lies in the hands of students and many social issues around us should be dealt with
intellectually not emotionally.”
He said further: “Students’ complete focus should be on education, but it is regrettable that some of them carry weapons in hands that should carry books.”
Meanwhile, the Madras University students who were protesting the lack of sanitation in the college have been detained.
The students were protesting on campus ahead of the visit of Palaniswami and the Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam.
The police detained students of the Madras University today who were staging protests seeking basic sanitation and drinking water facilities ahead of the visit by the CM and the deputy CM.
According to reports, a large number of students of the varsity staged widespread protests inside and around the university campus. Their demands were the provision of proper sanitation facilities, drinking water, and edible food.
