CM Vijay unveils long-term development roadmap for TN
The Tamil Nadu government led by Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay has approved an extensive development blueprint titled Vetri Tamizhagam Vision Document, outlining hundreds of initiatives intended to guide governance over the coming years.
The framework discussed at the first Cabinet meeting of the Vijay-led government incorporates many commitments made by the ruling Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) during the 2026 Assembly election campaign.
Structured around themes inspired by the Tirukkural, the document is organised into ten major focus areas covering social welfare, economic growth, education, healthcare, infrastructure, agriculture, women’s empowerment, youth development and transparent governance. These are further broken down into dozens of sub-categories.
Following the cabinet meeting, Electricity Minister Nirmal Kumar said the government has identified specific goals for all departments, with responsibilities distributed across hundreds of projects. Ministers have also been tasked with working closely with senior officials to prepare detailed execution plans and ensure timely implementation.
The government plans to monitor progress through a dedicated implementation department responsible for coordination and regular reviews. On other issues, the minister reiterated the state’s opposition to the proposed Mekedatu dam project and said legal avenues would be pursued. He also noted that discussions on the proposed Parandur airport did not take place during the cabinet meeting.
The administration additionally reaffirmed its commitment to tackling narcotics and illegal tobacco products, citing ongoing enforcement measures against unauthorised sales outlets.
