CM Vijay signs MoUs in UK: Rs. 11,000 crore Motherson investment to bring 7,000 jobs to Tamil Nadu

Tamil Nadu is set for a major investment boost after the State government signed several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) in London on Monday, September 14, during Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay’s first official overseas visit.

Among the major commitments is an investment of around ₹11,000 crore from Samvardhana Motherson International Limited and its European and UK-based joint venture companies. The project is expected to generate employment for nearly 7,000 people in areas such as design, engineering, manufacturing, assembly and logistics.

The agreement was exchanged by Barry Painter, global head of marketing and communications at the Samvardhana Motherson International Group, and Deepak Jacob, managing director of Guidance Tamil Nadu.

As part of the proposed investment, Motherson plans to develop integrated Design, Engineering, Manufacturing, Assembly and Logistics facilities at strategic locations across Tamil Nadu. The initiative is expected to strengthen the state’s advanced engineering and supply-chain ecosystem.

Another major announcement came from Ernst & Young, which has committed ₹1,000 crore to establish a Global Capability Centre in Tamil Nadu. The facility is expected to generate more than 2,000 high-value jobs.

Swedish technology company Sigma Technology Group has also entered into agreements to expand its digital services and engineering operations in the State.

Meanwhile, UK-based power equipment manufacturer Wilson Power Solutions has signed an MoU involving an investment of ₹300 crore for a new manufacturing facility in Tiruvallur district. The project is expected to provide around 400 jobs.

Industries Minister S. Keerthana said the investments demonstrated Tamil Nadu’s growing appeal among global companies.

She highlighted the scale of the Motherson and EY commitments and said the expansion of Sigma Technology would further reinforce Tamil Nadu’s standing as a destination for technology and digital services.

The Chief Minister’s London visit is focused on attracting fresh investments and creating new employment opportunities across multiple sectors.
