Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami will inaugurate covid vaccine programme in Madurai on 16 January.
Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has approved two coronavirus vaccines namely Covishield and Covaxin in India. From Jan 16 onwards State governments would start phase I of vaccinating people against coronavirus.
Central Government also had launched mobile application ‘CoWin’ to coordinate the inoculation efforts and monitor vaccine availability & delivery.
Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu recorded 724 fresh COVID cases and seven deaths on Sunday. Of the daily total, eight cases were imported from other states and countries.
With Chennai recording 208 cases, the total number in TN stands at 8,26,261. The number of active cases reached 7,164, with Chennai accounting for 2,182.
In the districts, Coimbatore logged 76 cases, while Chengalpettu and Salem recorded 40 and 48 respectively. Tiruvallur had 36 cases, while Erode and Tirupur had 27 each. Of the seven reported deaths, three were recorded at private and four at government hospitals.
