CM Palaniswami’s foreign tour plans revealed

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami will be leaving on Wednesday on a foreign trip covering the UK, US and Dubai to seek investments in various sectors. He will return on September 10. 

According to sources, during his visit to London, the State government is expected to sign Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) in the health sector. He will also inspect the ambulance service and the steps taken to control the spread of Malaria there.

During his foreign sojourn, the first by a chief minister of the state in decades, Palaniswami will sign various pacts and return home on September 10, an official release said.

Palaniswami, considered a lightweight when he was anointed by V K Sasikala (now jailed) in February 2017 following a rebellion against her by O Panneerselvam, is strengthening his hold within the party as it braces itself to face the Assembly elections due in 2021.

On September 1, he will leave London for New York, where he is scheduled to interact with representatives of Tamil entrepreneurs in the US and the Tamil diaspora. He will also meet officials from Caterpillar and Ford.

The release said Palaniswami will embark on an official foreign tour starting August 28, in a bid to attract investments and new technlogies in various fields, including health.

In the UK, he would also meet several investors including Hinduja at an event, besides visiting wind mill and solar power facilities to study the feasibility of implementing in the State on easy transportation of power to the grid.
