In yet another day of developments ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami today called on DMDK president Vijayakanth in Chennai.
Palaniswami, who is also the joint coordinator of the ruling AIADMK, met Vijayakanth at his residence at Saligramam. The CM was accompanied by a bunch of Ministers including Dindigul Srinivasan and Vijayabaskar.
During the meeting, Palaniswami enquired about the health condition of the actor-turned-politician. It is also said that seats to be contested by the Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam were also discussed.
Meanwhile, in the DMK alliance, Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam today announced the candidature of former MP A. Ganeshamurthi from the Erode constituency for the April 18 Lok Sabha elections in Tamil Nadu.
Vaiko said in a statement: “Ganeshamurthi is contesting from Erode as MDMK candidate, on behalf of the DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance.”
On Friday, DMK president M K Stalin released the list of constituencies to be contested by his party and its alliance partners in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
The 20 seats to be contested by the DMK are Chennai–North, South and Central Chennai, Kancheepuram (R), Vellore, Tiruvannamalai, Arakkonam, Sriperumbudur, Dharmapuri, Kallakurichi, Salem, Nilgiris (R), Pollachi, Dindugul, Cuddalore, Mayiladuthurai, Thanjavur, Tuticorin, Tenkasi (R) and Tirunelveli.
Congress will contest from Tiruvallur, Karur, Krishnagiri, Sivaganga, Aarni, Trichy, Theni, Virudhunagar, Kanniyakumari and Puducherry.
While the CPI(M) would contest from Coimbatore and Madurai and the CPI in Tiruppur and Nagapattinam (R), the MDMK led by Vaiko has been given Erode.
The IUML was allotted the Ramanathapuram seat, the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) led by Thol Thirumavalavan was given the Reserved constituencies of Villuppuram and Chidambaram.
The Kongunadu Desiya Makkal Katchi (KDMK) was allotted Namakkal and the Indhiya Jananayaga Katchi (IJK) would contest from Perambalur.
