Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) leaders Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka have requested additional time to appear before the Delhi Police Crime Branch in connection with cases arising from a protest at Jantar Mantar on October 13.
According to police sources, the two leaders were summoned for questioning on Thursday but sought a postponement. Investigators are expected to issue fresh notices asking them to join the inquiry at a later date.
The cases concern allegations of trespassing and obstructing public servants during the protest. Both matters were recently transferred to the Crime Branch for further investigation.
Das and Ranka were released on Wednesday after furnishing written undertakings to maintain peace. They also agreed not to call for protests at Jantar Mantar while the site remains denotified, according to the reported conditions.
The two leaders were initially remanded to five days of judicial custody on October 14 following their detention over the demonstration. Their custody was extended by a further two days on October 19 before ending on Wednesday.
As part of the conditions imposed during the proceedings, both were directed to furnish personal bonds and surety bonds of Rs 50,000 each until the inquiry concludes.
The Crime Branch is expected to continue its investigation into the circumstances surrounding the October 13 demonstration.
