Cinematographer Ravi Varman walks out of Indian 2

Cinematographer Ravi Varman seems to have opted out of Indian 2 due to the delay in shooting and also because he is part of Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan which is expected to start rolling by the end of this year.

Following this, Shankar has tied up with Rathnavelu who earlier worked with the director in superstar Rajinikanth starrer Enthiran.

Since Indian 2 has been lying on the shelves for nearly 5 months, cinematographer Ravi Varman, who was excited to work on the film, had to back out. Sources close to the team reveal that the cinematographer had signed other projects which will begin soon.

As Ravi Varman’s replacement, director Shankar has roped in cinematographer Randy aka Rathnavelu to crank the camera for the film. It is to be noted that Rathnavelu has already worked with director Shankar in Rajinikanth-starrer Endhiran.

According to the industry grapevine, Varman sought Shankar’s permission to exit the project as he can’t juggle between both the projects once he starts working on both of them.

Indian 2 marks the reunion of Shankar and Kamal Haasan after two decades. Having teased fans with the first poster of the film on the occasion of Pongal earlier this year, the makers are now geared up to complete shooting the project as planned in a span of next six months.

One may recall Ravi worked with Kamal Haasan in one of his biggest blockbusters Dasavatharam.  And the cinematographer’s last film in Tamil was with Mani Ratnam in Kaattru Veliyidai.
