Chief Minister vijay to meet Karur stampede victims’ families in July

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay is expected to visit Karur during the second week of July to personally meet the families of the 41 people who died in the stampede at a Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) campaign event last year, according to sources.

The tragic incident took place on September 27, 2025, during a TVK election rally, resulting in the loss of 41 lives and drawing widespread attention across the state. Following the tragedy, Vijay faced criticism from political opponents for not visiting the affected families in person. Instead, while an official inquiry was in progress, he invited the families to Chennai to offer his condolences.

In the aftermath of the incident, the Madras High Court’s directions led to tighter restrictions on political rallies and public gatherings across Tamil Nadu.

Having taken office as Chief Minister on May 10 after the TVK-led alliance secured victory in the Assembly elections, Vijay’s administration has now completed 50 days.

This will be his first official visit to Karur as Chief Minister. Along with paying respects to the victims’ families, he is also expected to participate in several government welfare and development programmes.

Reports say the Karur visit will mark the beginning of a statewide district outreach programme, with the Chief Minister planning to visit every district in Tamil Nadu. Political observers view the visit as significant amid the changing political landscape in the state.
