Chennai turns corona hotspot by reporting 47 out of 52 cases

Chennai emerged a hotspot on Tamil Nadu’s coronavirus map by reporting 47 of the 52 Covid-19 positive cases on Monday and the cluster centred around crowded Koyambedu market grew larger with at least 13 close contacts of a vegetable vendor infected.

Madurai reported four cases and Villupuram had one, taking the state’s total to 1,937. There were 809 people under treatment in hospitals across the state, while 81 of them were declared fit for recharge. No deaths were reported.

In all, 29,797 people in the state are under home quarantine, 36 in government quarantine facilities and 1,870 people in isolation at hospitals across the state. So far, 94,781 samples and 86,339 individuals have been tested in the state.

The day saw 81 patients leaving hospitals fully cued of the dreaded disease. This takes the number of persons getting cured in the State to 1,101, a factor which brought some consolation to the Government.

All districts in the State except Dharmapuri have been afflicted with coronavirus and the Edappadi Palaniswami’s  prime concern is to contain the pandemic from spreading further. It is reported that the Chief Minister  informed the Centre during the video conferencing on Monday that lock down in the State should be extended further.

Greater Chennai Police Commissioner A.K. Viswanathan warned the wholesale traders that the Koyambedu Vegetable and Fruits market would be closed with more than four persons tested positive for Coronavirus.

He said two retail traders who had come to the market are infected with Coronavirus. A team of officials met the representatives of the wholesale market for shifting some of the shops to a different place to avoid huge crowds.

Meanwhile MK Stalin, DMK chief and Leader of the Opposition demanded the Edappadi Palaniswami Government to come clean in the rapid test kit scam.

DMK leader Kanimozhi tweeted: “Congratulations CM! A few days ago, you brought entire cities out on to the road because of your lockdown within a lockdown. Now, you bring the city traffic and ambulances to a standstill. Your humility is amazing.”
