Chennai temperature: From hot to hotter, it’s hottest now
Just after few days relief from the sweltering summer due to low pressure area over Bay of Bengal, Chennai is once again reeling under severe heat wave conditions as the mercury level in more than ten districts crossed 40 degree mark.
The temperature, which touched 106 degree Fahrenheit on Wednesday, remained almost the same on Thursday, said officials of meterological department. “But the immense heat may result in some rains too,” they sounded a word of solace.
During the last couple of days, the temperatures have again shot up and reached the 40 degrees Celsius in several districts including Trichy, Vellore, Dharmapuri, Cuddalore and Chennai.
Acording to officials at the meteorological department, high temperatures will be the order of the day till the end of this week. “After this, the heat will gradually reduce”, they said.
A weather bulletin said though heat wave continue to prevail in Tamil Nadu, northern districts such as Salem, Erode, Nilgiris, Virudhunagar and Namakkal received good amount of rainfall during the last 24 hours.
Chennai and its neighbouring districts was threatened by a storm just last week when the temperature dropped to 26 degree Celsius and the heavy rain battered the region.
The sudden summer downpour was so huge this time that it threatened another deluge similar to the one in December last year.
