Chennai police commissioner reveals how Swathi killer was arrested: Greater Chennai City Police Commissioner T K Rajendran today said one-sided love Ramkumar had on Swathi was the motive behind the murder and that the accused has no accomplices.
Speaking to reporters hours after Ramkumar was arrested in Tirunelveli for murdering techie Swathi in Chennai last week, he asserted that footages recorded in the CCTV cameras helped the Special teams to nail the killer in the June 24 sensational daylight murder.
Rajendran said, the evidences available are clear that Ramkumar is the killer and he had no accomplice. He said when the Tirunelveli police tried to nab him on Friday midnight Ramkumar attempted to slit his throat with a blade.
Ramkumar was given first aid and then taken to the Government Hospital there for further treatment. “We will go by the doctor’s advice on interrogating him there or bringing him to Chennai,” Rajendran said.
Ramkumar, who has been staying in a mansion at Choolaimedu area in the city for the last three months, where Swathi’s house was situated, had also followed her on a few occasions, he said.
Receipt of clues from various angles also helped in nabbing the assailant, he said, adding, after getting medical advise and after doctors declared him fit, Ramkumar would be brought to Chennai from Tirunelveli for further investigations.
The Commissioner thanked the public and Swathi’s parents for cooperating with the police in the investigations. According to a senior doctor in the Government Hospital, it will take seven days for Ramkumar’s wound to heal.
