On December 8, the third cyclonic storm of the season, Vardah developed in the Southeast Bay of Bengal. Not only this, conditions are quite favourable for further intensification of the cyclonic storm.
The storm is expected to hit the Andhra Coast around next week on Monday. The point to be noted here is that Chennai, the capital city of Tamil Nadu will be saved from the cyclone fury.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the depression lies about 310 km off Port Blair.
It is expected to move northwestwards and intensify further in the next 72 hours.
It will be called ‘Vardah’ meaning Rose in Arabic and Urdu, a name given by Pakistan. Eight countries — India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Maldives, Myanmar, Oman, Sri Lanka and Thailand —contributed a list of 64 names. Each country gave eight names for the upcoming cyclones.
According to private weather risk and analysis enterprise skymetweather.com, one cyclonic storm each had developed in October and November.
