Chennai airport withdraws e-pass facility

Officials at the Chennai International Airport have announced that the e-pass system, which was available at the airport for passengers, has been withdrawn.

Earlier, passengers travelling to Chennai could either obtain an e-pass on the Tamil Nadu E-pass Portal or at a counter at the airport. From Friday, passengers travelling to Chennai will have to obtain the e-pass from the state portal.

As many as 5,488 persons have tested positive for coronavirus in Tamil Nadu, taking the tally to 530,908, health officials said on Friday.

The state recorded 67 more deaths, pushing the toll to 8,685. The number of infected children in the state between the age group 0-12 went up to 22,448.

As far as Chennai’s neighbouring districts are concerned, Chengalpattu on Friday registered 265 new cases, Kancheepuram saw 151 infections in the last 24 hours, and Thiruvallur posted 258 positive cases.

The districts of Cuddalore and Coimbatore on Friday witnessed 254 and 543 new cases, respectively. As many as 67 Covid-19 patients died today, taking the total number of fatalities in the State due to the pandemic to 8,685.
