Centre orders lockdown of Chennai, Kanchi, Erode; people’s overwhelming support to PM’s call

The Union government has ordered lockdown in the districts of Chennai, Kanchipuram and Erode to prevent the spread of Coronavirus.

The government has released the list of 75 districts which will be under lockdown from today. These districts have reported Corona cases.

However, essential services will be available in all these 75 districts.  The list has all seven districts of Delhi.

Meanwhile, a Bandh like situation prevailed as it was total shut down in Tamil Nadu today in line with the nation-wide call for Janata curfew (people’s curfew) by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to combat COVID-19.

Since the state government offered its full support, the 14-hour self-imposed curfew was a total success.

All the arterial and interior roads, including bylanes wore a deserted look as people chose to stay indoors, even as the world’s second largest beach Marina, which was banned for public entry, saw poor–nay virtually no turnout–among morning walkers and joggers.

Also, people and celebrities clapped at 5 pm to express their support to doctors and medical staff.
