Union Minister of Information & Broadcasting, M. Venkaiah Naidu, has announced that veteran singer S P Balasubrahmanyam will be honoured at the 47th International Film Festival of India.
In a statement, he said, “It’s an award, not a reward. He has been working in the film industry for the past five decades. He has rendered more than 40,000 songs till now.”
He wrote on Twitter: “Sh S. P. Balasubrahmanyam,the acclaimed singer, is conferred Centenary Award for Indian Film Personality of #IFFI2016 My compliments to him.”
It may be recalled that Superstar Rajinikanth and Isaignani Ilaiyaraaja were the recipients the award in 2014 and 2015 respectively.
Meanwhile, SP Balasubrahmanyam is the second Indian, after MS Subbulakshmi, to be performing at State Kremlin Palace, Moscow, to mark the festival of lights celebration by the Indian diaspora, on November 6.
As the legendary singer completed 50 years of singing, this year, television host and entertainer Badava Gopi along with his friend Vijayakumar will be organising a special concert as a part of the event.
