‘Captain Prabhakaran’ to be re-released on August 22nd using modern technology
‘Captain Prabhakaran’, the 100th film starring revolutionary artist Captain Vijayakanth, was a huge success and a box office hit. Directed by RK Selvamani, this film released on 14 April 1991, Tamil New Year, and captivated not only the Captain’s fans but also fans from all walks of life. It also earned him the wonderful name ‘Captain’, which people affectionately called him throughout his life.
It has been 34 years since the release of the film ‘Captain Prabhakaran’, and it is now being re-released on August 22nd, having been digitally converted to a new format using modern 4K technologies.
The film will be released in about 500 theaters across Tamil Nadu. Karthik Venkatesan is re-releasing the film on behalf of Sparrow Cinemas.
An official announcement in this regard was made at a press conference held at the DMDK headquarters office in Koyambedu this morning (August 24) on the occasion of Captain Vijayakanth’s birthday.
Director R.K. Selvamani, DMDK leader Premalatha Vijayakanth, DMDK treasurer L.K. Sutheesh, directors Vikraman, R.V. Udayakumar, Aravindraj and Perarasu were present as special guests at the event.
Sparrow Cinemas, the company that is releasing the film, organized a special lunch for the over 1500 members of the public who attended the event to mark the Captain’s birthday.
The film, which stars Captain Vijayakanth in the lead role, has music composed by music composer Ilayaraja. The film also stars Sarathkumar, Rupini, Ramya Krishnan, Mansoor Ali Khan, Livingston, and Gandhimati.
