CAA won’t be implemented in Tamil Nadu: Stalin
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin on Monday said that his government will not implement the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) in the state “in any manner”.
He said that the CAA was against minorities and Sri Lankan Tamils living in refugee camps in Tamil Nadu.
“The BJP-led Centre has issued a notificiation for the implementation of CAA hastily as the Parliamentary election is approaching. This is not just against the Constitution, but also against the diversity, secularism and minority communities and Sri Lankan Tamils living in refugee camps in Tamil Nadu,” the Chief Minister said.
“People will teach them a befitting lesson,” he added.
He also said that after coming to power, the DMK government had brought a resolution in the Tamil Nadu Assembly to withdraw the CAA and had sent it to the Centre.
The Chief Minister said that the central government has notified the CAA to “escape from the censure of the apex court, to divert people and for electoral politics.”
“This law will create division among the people. We believe that this law is unnecessary and must be struck off. The Tamil Nadu Government will not allow the implementation of CAA in the state. I assure the people of Tamil Nadu that this government will not allow the implementation of any law that might affect the unity of India,” he added.
