c forces Vijay to cancel Kerala visit
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay cancelled his planned helicopter trip to Kerala on Friday after unfavourable weather conditions in Coimbatore disrupted his travel plans.
Vijay was scheduled to fly to Thrissur following the inauguration of the Periyar Arivulagam Library and Science Centre in Coimbatore. His itinerary also included attending a Navaratri celebration at the home of a prominent jewellery businessman in Kerala.
Two helicopters had been positioned at temporary helipads on the Police Recruitment School grounds for the journey. However, heavy rain and adverse weather conditions forced the cancellation, and Vijay subsequently departed for Chennai.
Earlier in the day, the chief minister inaugurated the Periyar Arivulagam facility on Dr Nanjappa Road in Gandhipuram. The centre occupies seven acres and has been developed as a hub for education, scientific learning and research.
The eight-storey project, named after social reformer E V Ramasamy, popularly known as Periyar, was conceived and launched under the previous DMK government. The estimated investment stands at Rs 300 crore, including Rs 245 crore for construction and Rs 50 crore for books and e-books.
Before the inauguration, DMK president and former chief minister M K Stalin shared a video online, describing the centre as an initiative of his government’s Dravidian model administration.
