BSP leader Armstrong’s body to be laid to rest at Pothur in Tiruvallur
The mortal remains of slain BSP Tamil Nadu State President K.Armstrong, who was hacked to death on Friday, was laid to rest at a private land at Pothur village near Red Hills in Tiruvallur district in the wee hours of this morning.
The funeral procession, which commenced at 1630 hrs on Sunday, wounded through the 20 km route in a snail’s pace, before it was buried at around 0100 hrs, police sources said.
Amid heavy rains and accompanied by thousands of people, including BSP cadres and his family members, took nearly nine hours to reach the burial site, in the presence of a large number of party cadres, who had assembled at the spot ever since the Madras High Court passed orders to this effect.
Police have made elaborate security arrangements all through the procession route and also made tight security at the burial site.
People lined up on both sides of the road, braving rains, and showered rose petals all through the route on the hearse vehicle that carried the coffin of the slain leader with his body.
The mortal remains of Armstrong was interned into the pit in the presence of his family members at around 0115 hrs after an arduous final journey.
