BJP State president L Murugan on Friday called on Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami at the latter’s residence and congratulated him for being selected as the AIADMK’s chief ministerial candidate for 2021 Assembly elections.
Murugan was accompanied by party’s State general secretary KT Raghavan and other leaders. The 25-minute meeting took place two days after Murugan and party leader Pon Radhakrishnan made contradictory statements on the alliance with the AIADMK.
But he avoided questions twice during the day whether Palaniswami would the CM candidate of the NDA in Tamil Nadu.
Murugan met Palaniswami to thank him for the AIADMK’s support for the farm Acts and the State government’s swift action in the PM KISAN scheme scam.
“I also congratulated him for being nominated as the AIADMK’s CM candidate,” Murugan told reporters after the meeting. When reporters asked if Palaniswami was the CM candidate of the AIADMK or the NDA, Murugan replied, “That’s what I said very clearly now.”
This comes close on the heels of senior BJP leader and former Union Minister Pon Radhakrishnan saying that the party’s alliance with the AIADMK was only for the Lok Sabha polls.
Radhakrishnan said the BJP’s alliance for the Assembly polls could be with the AIADMK. Or it could be with the DMK, or we can form an alliance on our own. There is a possibility for everything, he added.
