“Rajinikanth’s remarks that Home Ministry should be held responsible for the violence during CAA protests in New Delhi and that the Centre should resign if violence is not controlled are needless,” a senior BJP leader has said.
According to Bharatiya Janata Party functionary S R Sekar, “He (Rajinikanth) has not understood the basics about CAA”.
Rajinikanth has slammed the central government for the Delhi violence in which 27 people have lost their lives. The actor said the clashes are the result of the centre’s “intelligence failure”. On his recent remark in support of the Citizenship Amendment Act, he said he is not the BJP’s “mouthpiece”.
“Definitely it is the central government’s intelligence failure. I strongly condemn the central government,” he told reporters in Chennai on Wednesday night.
He said that the violence should be treated by an iron fist and if the centre is not able to do that they should, “resign and go.” His bold statement left his friend and superstar Kamal Haasan impressed, who took to Twitter to applaud him.
In the Tweet, Kamal wrote, “Shabash, my friend Rajini. That’s the way. This is a good path. It’s not a path for just one person, but a royal path for an entire community. Welcome, and congratulations.”
Riots broke out in large parts of north east Delhi from Sunday night and continued till Tuesday evening. These have been the biggest incidents of communal violence seen in Delhi since the 1984 anti-Sikh riots. The violence flared even as US President Donald Trump was in Delhi for his maiden visit.
