“EVKS Elangovan has resorted to commenting on prime minister Modi as he is jealous of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)’s rising popularity”, said BJP state president Tamilisai Soundararajan on Friday.
We will capture several local bodies, including municipalities. Will the Congress party be able to say that? Are they ready to face the local body polls alone,” Tamilisai Soundararajan asked.
Local body elections are expected to be held by October this year in Tamil Nadu. BJP had tied up with fringe parties for the May 16 Assembly polls while Congress had forged an alliance with DMK.
BJP protests against Elangovan, Tamilisai’s challenge to Congress
Speaking at the demonstration staged at Valluvar Kottam, to protest against the TNCC chief’s comments on Modi, she said, “The PM has brought great pride to the country. But Elangovan has insulted him with his remarks. Earlier, he had used the same tactic against me and his own party colleague Vijayadharani, by making sexist remarks.”
Meanwhile, the Tamil Nadu BJP has not ruled out a tie-up with the AIADMK for the local body polls in the state. Its state unit chief has said that the party saw a ‘change’ in chief minister J Jayalalithaa’s attitude.
“There is a clear change in her attitude. This was the same chief minister who in her previous tenure refused to participate in the chief ministers’ conference.
But this time, she has announced that she will be in New Delhi for the meeting and will also meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This is definitely a change and we welcome it,”
