Bigil or Kaithi: Who is Deepavali winner?

Though Vijay starrer Bigil witnessed bumper opening when hit the screens along with Karthi’s Kaithi on Friday last, two days ahead of Deepavali, the latter is now slowly emerging winner in the box-office and in terms of positive talk.

According to sources, while the collections of Bigil were on a high during the initial days, the revenues are slowly coming down, now that the holidays are over.

This is due to the negative reviews generated by the film and many Vijay fans themselves are said to be unhappy with the movie.

However, on the other hand, though Kaithi, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, witnessed an average opening, its collections are on the steady rise due to positive word of mouth (WOM) and rave reviews.

Some insiders recall that same was the case in 2011 Pongal, when Vijay’s Kavalan and Karthi’s Siruthai hit the screens simultaneously. “Siruthai slowly overtook Kavalan at that time,” they say.

While Vijay’s Bigil has collected more than Rs 100 crore within few days of its release, Karthi’s Kaithi is going strong and steady in the box-office with an increase in the number of shows and screens.

Bigil directed by Atlee has been receiving mixed response from both critics and movie audience. While the first three days collection can be attributed to the pre-booking factor, it will be worthwhile to see how the movie performs in box office after Deepavali holidays are over.
