The Covid-19 tally in India rose to 12,87,945 today after 49,311 fresh cases were reported within a span of 24 hours. The Centre is today scheduled to hold a video conference with eight states, which it views as a “cause of concern”, to check the spread of the virus.
The meeting, scheduled for Friday, will feature a detailed discussion between a team of experts from the Centre as well as senior Health Ministry officials and officers from Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Telangana, Odisha, West Bengal, Assam, Karnataka, and Uttar Pradesh.
Deaths from the Covid-19 pandemic in India crossed 30,000 and India’s toll rose to the sixth highest in the world on Thursday, even as fresh cases surged to another new high, crossing 49,000 for the first time.
Total Covid-19 positive cases stand at 12,87,945 including 4,40,135 active cases, 8,17,209 cured/discharged/migrated & 30,601 deaths, said Union Health Ministry.
Meanwhile, no school children will participate in the Independence Day celebrations this year. “At the Red Fort, instead of the 900-1,000 invitees every year, around 250 people will be present as the Prime Minister addresses the nation,” an official with the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) said.
According to the ICMR, a cumulative total of 1,54,28,170 samples have been tested up to July 23 with 3,52,801 samples being tested on Thursday.
Meanwhile, India and Israel, who had announced the joint development of rapid testing tools for Covid-19 in May, seem ready to move on to the next step with Israeli scientists set to arrive in India with breakthrough technologies to help the country cope with its soaring caseload.
