Bestowing of Devaneya Paavanar, Veeramamunivar Awards Last Date for submission of Application :10.10.2020

Applications are invited for the awards in the name of Devaneya Paavanar and  VeeramaMunivar.
In order to motivate, encourage and give fillip to Tamil Scholars, the Govt. of Tamil Nadu is
giving various valuable awards every year. According to the Govt. G.O. this year also two awards in
the name of Devaneya Paavanar and Veeramamunivar, the great Tamil Scholars are going to be
given through this Directorate.
In order to encourage and give fillip for the research of Tamil root words, preparation of
Tamil Dictionaries along with promoting upkeep and maintenance of pure Tamil. It has been intended
to bestow the “Devaneya Paavanar Award” for a meritorious and eminent scholar in Lexicography
(Dictionary Production) of Indian origin. The Government have issued orders bestowing for the
Veeramamunivar Award to a befitting scholar of repute who shall be a foreigner by birth, and whose
mother tongue shall not be Tamil; she/he shall be a scholar of excellence and eminence who has
strided on the path of Veeramamunivar replicating his literary and creative style; has produced minor
literatures, and has brought out translation and also who has been an outstanding scholar on
Lexicography and who has published Tamil Dictionaries.
The awardee will receive Rupees One Lakh in cash and also a gold medal Of One Sovereign
(one pound) along with a Citation.
The above said two awards are to be given to the qualified people, through the Directorate of
Tamil Etymological Dictionary Project. The eligible Scholars are asked to apply for the awards, by
downloading the format from „sorkuvai.com‟; and the filled up forms should be sent only by post on or

continuously giving several awards. From this year onwards, four new awards will be given for which
G.O. has been issued. Among these four awards, the awards given in the names of Devaneya
Paavanar and Veeramamunivar will be awarded under the auspices of the Directorate of Tamil
Etymological Dictionary Project, and the other two awards issued in the names of Arutperumjothi
Vallalar and Karaikkal Ammaiyar will be awarded on behalf of Tamil Development Department.

in cash and also a gold medal of one sovereign (Eight grams) along with a Citation. Those scholars
who are qualified to receive the award (and prize along with Citation) shall download the Application
Form from www.sorkuvai.com and fill it up and obtain certificates from two eminent personalities –
one from an University professor and the other from an eminent lexicologist – and enclose them along
with their Bio-datas and Photos. The filled up applications shall be sent to the “DIRECTOR,

Office First Floor No. 75 Santhom High Road, M.R.C. Nagar, Chennai – 600 028.” either in
person or by post. Last date for the receipt of this application is 22.01.2020.
