Bala Singh passes away

Veteran actor Bala Singh who has appeared in notable characters in films like Virumaandi, Pudhupettai, Saamy, etc., passed away in Chennai early today morning.

The actor was admitted to Vijaya Hospital in Chennai a few days ago for food poisoning. He was 67. Bala Singh’s death has caused tragedy among the film industry and many have offered condolences.

Bala Singh was famous for his role in Dhanush and Selvaraghavan movie Pudhupettai. He made his debut as an actor in Nassar’s movie Avatharam and went on to do many Tamil movies.

His body will be kept for homage in Virgambakkam till evening and then will be taken to his hometown Nagarkoil for last rites. Apart from films, he has also worked in several hit TV serials like Rudhraveenai and Aathira.

Coming from a theatre background, Bala Singh’s journey into the film industry was not easy. The actor made his first screen appearance in a bit role in Vaa Indha Pakkam, and he received some attention for his role in Ezhavathu Manithan. But, it was actor Naasar’s directorial debut Avatharam that put him on the map.

The actor was last seen in September Magamuni that starred Arya. Having appeared as an antagonist in over 100 films, Bala has also been a part of numerous Malayalam projects including Malamukalile Daivam, Uyarum Njan Nadake, Jungle Boy and Mulla.
