Police arrested a 46-year-old man who worked as an autorickshaw driver during the day and turned a burglar at night to make easy money. He was caught with the help of CCTV camera footage obtained from a shop at MGR Nagar on November 22.
According to police, the accused, V Annamalai, of Balaji Nagar in Porur, had broken open the shutters of a bakery with an iron rod and had stolen the cash and chocolates late in the night.
The shocked bakery owner, Sabestin, filed a complaint with the police. During investigation, CCTV footage from a neighbouring shop showed Annamalai engaged in the criminal act.
Inquires revealed that he was involved in other robbery cases reported in K K Nagar and Pallikaranai. In July 2016, residents nabbed Annamalai when he tried to flee after breaking into a house at Pallikaranai and police arrested him.
He has two house breaking cases registered against him in the city, police added. Annamalai, has been remanded in judicial custody.
