Ever since the lockdown to spread Covid-19 was announced in March, videos of policemen assaulting the public have become a common thing.
Last week, a TNEB worker was assaulted by the police when he was on his way to work. Earlier this week, a man and his son, both traders, allegedly died after they were brutally attacked by policemen in Sathankulam.
And now, another video has surfaced, in which policemen were seen attacking a young man and a woman (presumably his mother) for keeping their shop open beyond the permitted time. While there is no doubt that action should be taken against violators, who gave permission to police to assault people is the question on many minds.
Meanwhile, coronavirus numbers witnessed an unprecedented 3,509 in the last 24 hours in Tamil Nadu today. With this, the total number of cases in the State has touched 70,977.
Out of the 3,509 new positive cases reported in Tamilnadu, 1,834 cases are from Chennai alone.
