“Arulvaan” Movie Reiew

Arulvaan tells the inspiring story of Kurunji (Kritika), a determined young girl from an isolated hill tribe whose dream of receiving an education becomes a powerful journey of hope and resilience. Set in the late 1990s, the film highlights the challenges faced by marginalized communities that have long been denied access to basic opportunities, while celebrating the courage of one child who refuses to give up.
Kurunji grows up in a remote tribal village where there is no school, and education remains a distant dream. Her mother, Amaravalli (Ramya Pandian), is strict and practical, while her father (Aarav) is affectionate and supportive, though often unable to turn his promises into reality. When a teacher from a nearby town tells Kurunji that the district collector has the authority to establish a school in her village, she embraces the idea with unwavering determination. Faced with traditions that threaten to end her aspirations, she chooses to pursue her dream instead of surrendering to circumstance.
The film also sheds light on the exploitation of tribal communities through the character of a corrupt policeman (John Vijay), whose involvement in an illegal land-grabbing operation creates significant obstacles for the villagers. These conflicts underline the importance of awareness and education in empowering vulnerable communities to protect their rights and future.
The narrative gains additional strength with the arrival of District Collector Muthuvel (Arulnithi). His composed performance and commanding screen presence bring warmth, dignity, and hope to the story, reinforcing the belief that committed public servants can create meaningful change. Kritika delivers a heartfelt performance, portraying Kurunji with innocence, determination, and emotional depth. Supporting performances by Kaali Venkat as a curious reporter and VTV Ganesh provide further depth and moments of relief.
More than anything, Arulvaan serves as a heartfelt reminder of the transformative power of education. Although set in a time before widespread internet access, its message remains deeply relevant today. By emphasizing perseverance, social responsibility, and equal opportunities, the film encourages audiences to believe that education has the power to break barriers, uplift communities, and inspire lasting change.
