Are Covid-19 fatalities on rise in Tamil Nadu?

Tamil Nadu on Tuesday reported deaths of 75 Covid-19 patients even as 4,965 more people tested positive for the viral infection. The death toll rose to 2,626 while the total number of active cases reached 51,344. The state’s total tally now is at 1,80,643.

A day before, Tamil Nadu recorded 70 deaths on Monday, putting the state toll at 2,551. As many as 63 of them had succumbed due to comorbidities. A total of 4,894 persons got discharged on Tuesday taking the number of recoveries to 1,26,670.

There are 51,344 active cases in the state. Chennai recorded 1130 cases taking its tally to 14952. Apart from Chennai, Thiruvallur (366), Virudhunagar (360), Thoothukudi (269), Kancheepuram (262) and Chengalpet (256) reported maximum cases. So far, 9028 children under the age of 12 have been tested positive to Covid-19.

Chennai’ daily cases continue to stay stable as the city accounted for 1,130 of the fresh cases which took its total confirmed cases to 88,377 which includes 14,952 people still under treatment.

Chennai’s three neighbouring districts recorded a total of 884 cases. They include 256 cases in Chengalpet, 262 in Kancheepuram and 366 in Tiruvallur.
