Anuya talks about slapping Vijay

Anuya of Thalainagaram 2 and Bigg Boss fame played the role of Ileana’s sister in Nanban, which had Vijay, Jiiva and Srikanth in lead roles. The film was directed by Shankar.

In one of the scenes in the flick, Anuya had to give Vijay a tight slap. In an interview with a Tamil web portal, the actress revealed how the scene was shot and that she was hesitant to slap Vijay.

She said that the cast had to exactly act out the scene like in 3 Idiots and that the original film was their reference point. “We would see the scene from the original film on a phone and then, shoot it. It was a frame-to-frame copy.

I knew that I had to slap Vijay for the scene. I knew that I had to slap him in such a way that it wouldn’t hurt him. But it still looked like I slapped him really hard. So, I was a bit hesitant.

After all, who wants to slap Thalapathy! So, I just gave a pat on his face. And he and Shankar sir were like, ‘We thought you were a good actor’. I was like, ‘sir, how will I do it?’. Shankar sir, replied, ‘This is not Vijay. Just give him a tight slap.’ Then, I told Vijay, ‘You are not Vijay anymore for me’ and then, I slapped.”

Nanban is a 2012 film directed by Shankar. It is a remake of Rajkumar Hirani’s 3 Idiots (2009). The film features an ensemble cast that includes Ileana D’Cruz, Vijay Jiiva, and Srikanth.

The plot of the film illustrates the embarkment of two friends on a quest for a lost buddy, who was once an optimistic and successful student. On their journey, they recount their college life and special moments that the three shared up until their lost friend secretly parted ways after convocation. During their quest, the two encounter a rival classmate who once made a long forgotten bet with them, a funeral that goes impossibly out of control, and a wedding they must crash.
