Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa explained as to why she has been making many announcements in the Assembly under Rule 110.
It all started after leader of opposition and DMK treasurer M K Stalin questioned the CM as to why she was making several announcements under Rule 110.
Referring to the demand for grants for each sector, he had asked, “What is the need for the chief minister to make announcements regarding a particular department, when already a separate session has been conducted with the minister concerned”.
To this, Jayalalithaa responded that it was not possible for the government to ideate about various departments during the one day that is alloted.
She said: “Ideas about various schemes would not strike the government at a single point of time. If that was possible, the previous DMK government could have implemented so many schemes. Why they did not do it? As far as we are concerned, we are thinking about people all 24 hours.”
“We are planning various schemes for their welfare all the time. Hence, announcements about schemes, which did not strike us when the Minister made announcements during the demands for grants, were made by me today. This is happening in each department.”
She also said the government led by her is thinking about people round-the-clock, and hence, coming up with various welfare schemes.
In the meantime, under Rule 110, Jayalalithaa on Friday announced sprucing of canals of Mettur dam at a cost of Rs 25 crore. She also announced modernising canals of Bhavani dam at a cost of Rs 36.75 crore. She also announced multi-crore road projects.
