Amitabh Bachchan gets emotional at Ritu Nanda prayer meet

The Bachchan, Nanda and Kapoor families came together to pay their last respects to Ritu Nanda, daughter of Raj Kapoor and mother-in-law of Amitabh Bachchan’s daughter Shweta Bachchan Nanda.

Shweta shared a throwback picture of herself along with her late mother-in-law, and her daughter Navya Naveli Nanda, in which the trio could be seen smiling with all their hearts.

Shweta posted: “Will miss you dearly.” Several Bollywood celebrities such as Zoya Akhtar, Angad Bedi and Maheep Kapoor paid tribute to Ritu Nanda in the comments section on Shweta’s post. Ritu Nanda, 71, the daughter of legendary actor Raj Kapoor and Krishna Raj Kapoor, was reportedly battling cancer for seven years. She died on Tuesday.

Ritu Nanda breathed her last in the wee hours of Tuesday (January 14). The entrepreneur and daughter of Raj Kapoor was suffering from cancer. After her funeral in Delhi, her ashes were immersed in the Ganga in Haridwar.

Amitabh posted: “An ideal daughter, an ideal sister, an ideal wife, an ideal Mother, an ideal in-law, an ideal Mother-in-Law, and an ideal friend.. has left us for good in a distance we cannot cover.. for now..!!”

He added: “The rites are over.. to ashes they have been reduced.. a crowded hall in the home filled with the close-knitted relatives and dear friends, embrace break down, hold hands, hold…and the silence of condolence gradually creeps in…polite conversation, of reminisce, of association, of happy times spent together, of the fight and struggle for the ailment for years.. and most of all the loneliness of them that are left behind.. the vacuum.. the emptiness.. the presence that filled up the entire home.. lost and gone…that empty favourite chair .. that corner of preference .. the unstinted care and concern for all when present , now suddenly not in existence.”

A video, sharing glimpses from inside the prayer meet, have been shared by Delhi-based singer Ankit Batra on his YouTube channel, who added to the emotional atmosphere of the prayer meeting with a melancholy rendition of Raj Kapoor’s song Jeena Yahan Marna Yahaan from Mera Naam Joker.
