Amit Shah on India’s economic growth and global outreach, says country strengthened international ties
Union Home Minister Amit Shah said on Monday that India strengthened its international partnerships and continued to pursue economic growth despite a period of global geopolitical uncertainty.
Speaking at an event in Panaji where the Goa Police was presented with the President’s Colour, Shah highlighted India’s expanding diplomatic and economic engagement with other countries.
He said India had completed nine free trade agreements by 2026 and was working towards further trade arrangements with several nations. According to Shah, the country’s international economic engagement contributed to its strong performance, with GDP growth reaching 7.8% in the first quarter of the 2026-27 financial year.
Shah pointed to the continuing Russia-Ukraine conflict and tensions involving the US, Iran and Gulf countries as examples of the instability affecting the global economy.
He said Prime Minister Narendra Modi had visited 22 countries during the previous year, while leaders from around 15 countries had travelled to India. According to Shah, these diplomatic engagements helped India establish strategic partnerships while maintaining economic momentum.
India has developed agreements covering areas including defence, technology, energy, investment and trade, Shah said. He added that FTAs were being pursued with countries and regions including the UAE, Australia, the UK, Oman, New Zealand and the European Union.
The Union Home Minister also highlighted India’s efforts to share its technological achievements with other nations. He cited the country’s Digital Public Infrastructure and India’s assistance to other countries in areas such as disaster response and capacity building.
Shah credited Modi’s international outreach with strengthening India’s position on the global stage. He said India’s views were increasingly being considered in discussions on major international issues.
He also spoke about the government’s long-term development target of making India a developed country by 2047, the centenary year of independence. Shah said the vision had gradually developed into a broader national objective.
Referring to the Goa Police, Shah said it was a matter of pride that the force had received the President’s Colour, recognising its service and achievements.
