Ambulance driver held for serial chain snatching
An ambulance driver was arrested for snatching gold chains from women pedestrians inside a subway near Stanley Medical College hospital.
According to sources, the police were receiving repeated complaints of women facing chain-snatching from unidentified persons at the subway near Government Stanley Hospital in Chennai.
Police checked CCTV footage from nearby establishments and zeroed in on the culprit. He was arrested when he attempted another snatching on Sunday.
The police zeroed in on one Suresh alias Ari (26), from Bharathi Nagar, Korukkupet, and his friend Dinakaran of Old Aaduthotti in Royapuram, to be behind the robberies.
Questioning revealed that he is employed as a driver of a private ambulance. He told police that he engaged in chain snatching along with a friend because his pay was low.
The police meanwhile, have launched a hunt for Dinakaran who is absconding.
