With more celebrities joining the list as tax evaders registering their vehicles at Pondicherry, the Motor Vehicle department of Kerala has initiated an enquiry.
The issue of registering luxury cars in Puducherry by people residing in other States using fictitious address for evading tax,has snowballed into a major controversy with Lieutenant Governor Kiran Bedi ordering a probe into the matter. She has also decided to write to the Centre on the issue.
However, Minister for Transport M.O.H.F. Shahjahan has denied charges of irregularities in the registration of luxury cars owned by actors Amala Paul and Fahad Fazil at Puducherry.
After the issue was flagged by Lieutenant Governor Kiran Bedi, the Transport Department, along with the police, conducted a detailed probe. The probe found that the registration was done as per provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act, he said.
