Amala called in an interview her divorce controversy as an unnecessary one and stated it as a personal thing. She added that no other person was responsible for her divorce, and that the decision was completely made by her.
The Aadai actress described Dhanush as her well wisher. On getting married again, Amala Paul said that it was not happening anytime soon, and added that she would make an announcement after she had completed her ongoing projects.
Azhagappan said in an interview that that Amala Paul had agreed and decided not to act in films after her marriage, but Dhanush was the one who made her sign his productional venture Amma Kanakku.
It was then that actress Amala Paul started acting again in films, and this was the reason behind Vijay and Amala Paul’s divorce. In a statement in 2017, Vijay said, “When Amala wanted to continue her career in films, I supported her. I was never a hindrance. The accusations that I or my family were stopping her from work are completely untrue. The base for any marital relationship is honesty and trust when that is breached the existence of committed relationship becomes pointless. I really value the institution of marriage and relationship a lot.”
Speaking with actor-filmmaker Chithra Lakshmanan in an interaction, Azhagappan said that though he did not approve the wedding, he could not anything about it as Vijay was adamant.
“I denied him permission several times and struggled a lot to restrict him from marrying her. It is a tragedy,” Alagappan said.
“It is nothing about marrying a girl from cinema industry. I have treated actresses who worked with us like sisters. We can’t blame a woman blindly,” he said further.
Alagappan added, “What worried me the most was that I realised that characters of Vijay and Amala Paul would not work for a marriage life. We had also heard a lot about her. Though we didn’t accuse her blindly, I kept insisting Vijay that it won’t work.”
