A special team of police, which cracked the Alandur murder case, has arrested the main accused Iman at his native place Rameswaram. He was on the run after committing the crime.
Iman’s girlfriend was working as a maid in the residence of Mohammad Sultan, a businessman at Alandur. Police quoted the accused as saying they killed the man because he had been sexually assaulting the 18-year-old maid for the past three months.
The murder came to light on Wednesday when heavy smoke was noticed from a house at MKN Nagar around 3.30 pm and fire service personnel were alerted.
After the fire was put out, police recovered the charred body of Mohammed Sultan. He was apparently gagged and assaulted before set on fire.
“The girl confessed and told that Sultan had been pestering to do ‘favours’ to him which she refused. She also complained about this to her fiancé, who unsuccessfully warned Sultan to keep the distance from his fiancée,” the police said.
On that fateful day, Sultan tried to attack Iman with a knife when the latter had gone there to warn him. “Iman took the knife in his hand and attacked him repeatedly before setting him on fire”, police said.
