Alagiri slams DMK leaders, says cadres are with him

With less than 24 hours left for the much awaited executive council meet of the DMK, expelled party leader and former Union Minister M K Alagiri today ‘expressed his anguish and agony to his father M Karunanidhi’ at his memorial at Marina and said time would tell what his grievances are.

Flanked by his son, Durai Dhayanidhi and his daughter, Kayalvizhi, Alagiri said he came to express his anguish to his father, whose mortal remains were buried there last week.

To a question on whether he was attempting to cause rebellion within the DMK, Alagiri said he was not even a party member but he had grievances about the DMK. “Only time will answer all the questions,” Alagiri pointed out.

Karunanidhi had in January 2014 decided to expel Alagiri for “anti-party activities” after he came out in support of the Bharatiya Janata Party and Narendra Modi ahead of the Lok Sabha elections. This was also the time when rivalry between the two brothers was at its peak.

Alagiri, from Marina, drove straight to the Gopalapuram residence of Karunanidhi. Speaking to reporters there, he said, “I will elaborate on my anguish in next two-three days’. When asked whethere there would be a split in the party, he said in a sarcastic tone, ‘I am not at all in the party”.
