Former Union Minister and DMK patriarch M Karunanidhi’s elder son, MK Alagiri lodged a complaint with the Chennai City Police Commissioner on Tuesday insisting that quotes debunking the DMK, attributed to him in a news article were false.
In a complaint lodged through his lawyer, Alagiri said a message shared on social networking site Facebook had said: “The postponement of local body election has only postponed the defeat of Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam in local body polls.”
He said this was widely shared by many and it appeared as if he was addressing a group of reporters. The same was telecast by a private news channel.
Alagiri said he was neither approached by any journalist nor did he make any comment on the postponement of polls. He denied making any such statement against the DMK .
“This libellous news material was spread on social media with ulterior and malicious motive to defame me and to damage my political career and personal life. My allegiance to my father M. Karunanidhi is unquestionable. This news item was made only with a mischievous motive to defame me and my illustrious father,” he said.
“The news was circulated on WhatsApp and other social networking platforms. In reality, I was never approached by any reporter, and I had not made any comment on the postponement of the local body polls.
The malice of the miscreants is nothing but an act of libel with an ulterior motive to defame me in front of my family, my party and staunch followers. The above act is mischievous, derogatory, pre-meditated and intended to create political unrest using a statement,” Alagiri said.
