Ajay Devgn has been roped in to play the lead in the official Hindi remake of 2019 Tamil blockbuster Kaithi. Produced by Ajay Devgn Ffilms (ADF), Reliance Entertainment, and Dream Warrior Pictures, the film is slated to release on 12 February, 2021.
Ajay tweeted: “Yes, I’m doing the Hindi remake of the Tamil film Kaithi. Releases on February 12, 2021 🙏 @RelianceEnt @DreamWarriorpic @ADFFilms @Shibasishsarkar #SRPrakashbabu @prabhu_sr @Meena_Iyer.”
The Hindi remake of Kaithi was announced earlier this month and since then, reports of Ajay Devgn playing the lead role in the film were surfacing on the Internet. Ajay’s latest tweet puts an end to weeks of speculation.
Producer S R Prabhu tweeted: “We are thrilled to announce that @ajaydevgn will be playing the lead in @RelianceEnt @DreamWarriorPic and @ADFFilms Hindi remake of #Kaithi. The film will release on February 12, 2021.@Shibasishsarkar #SRPrakashbabu @Meena_Iyer.”
It was announced last year that the Tamil blockbuster Kaithi starring Karthi will be remade in Hindi. However, the makers didn’t reveal the lead actor for the Hindi remake. Speculation was rife that the makers are considering to star Salman Khan or Hrithik Roshan in the lead role.
The 2019 release was written and directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj. ‘Kaithi’ focuses on the journey of Dilli, an ex-convict, whose plans of meeting his daughter are thwarted when an inspector conducts a drug raid.
Devgn was last seen opposite wife Kajol in their much-acclaimed period-drama ‘Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior’. Ajay Devgn’s magnum opus had grossed over Rs 200 crore and also garnered appreciation from critics across the country.
