Depressed at not being given a seat to contest in the upcoming local body polls, an AIADMK ward secretary on Tuesday attempted to end his life in Chennai. Two other incidents too have been reported.
AIADMK worker Dhanasekar and his wife, Selavkumari, from Tiruvallur attempted immolation by pouring petrol on themselves in front of the Tiruvallur district secretary’s room on the the sixth floor of the new MLA hostel at Omathoorar Government Estate in Chepauk.
The couple was admitted to the Government General Hospital. In another incident at Tiruvallur on Tuesday, AIADMK worker Rajini Ravi slitted his hand using a knife as his wife, Tamilsevi, did not get a ticket.
He was admitted to the Government Hospital in Tiruvallur. In Chennai, Sekar, a resident of Kumaran Nagar Third Street in Virugambakkam, is the ruling party’s secretary of ward 127.
His name did not feature in the candidates list announced by AIADMK supremo and Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa on Monday. He had applied for the councillor’s seat last elections too, but was denied.
“As a result, he consumed sleeping pills this morning and was rushed to a hospital in Koyambedu. His condition is said to be critical”, sources said.
