AIADMK leading in five constituencies, says ECI

As counting continues for the 234 seats of the Tamil Nadu Assembly, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has confirmed that the AIADMK is currently leading in five constituencies.

This marks a steady start for the Edappadi K. Palaniswami-led party as it attempts to reclaim its position in a now highly competitive triangular contest.

While the ruling DMK maintains an overall lead in approximately 38 seats, the emergence of Vijay’s TVK has shifted traditional voting patterns, pushing the AIADMK to the third position in several urban and semi-urban pockets. However, the AIADMK remains a formidable force in its traditional strongholds, particularly in the western “Kongu” belt, where early rounds are still being tallied.

The ECI has noted that these trends primarily reflect the first few rounds of EVM counting following the completion of postal ballot tabulation. With a historic 85.1% voter turnout recorded across the state, the final tallies are expected to remain fluid well into the afternoon. Security remains at a maximum across all 62 counting centers to ensure the process remains peaceful as the race for the 118-seat majority mark intensifies.
