Chief Minister and AIADMK joint coordinator Edappadi K Palaniswami and Deputy Chief Minister and party coordinator O Panneerselvam launched district-wise consultations with their party colleagues on Monday.
Office-bearers of 14 district units of the ruling party, covering parts of the central and southern regions of the State, took part in the first day of consultations. The deliberations touched on the reasons for the “not impressive” performance in the polls to rural local bodies, and how to improve performance in upcoming elections.
The four-day long meeting began in the morning at the AIADMK headquarters in Chennai. EPS and OPS met functionaries led by their secretaries, district-wise.
Most of the district secretaries are ministers. Among the first batch were the delta districts, including Karur, Thanjavur, Nagapattinam, Tiruvarur, Pudukkottai and Perambalur. Barring Karur, the party fared poorly in the delta belt in the rural local body elections.
Meanwhile, DMK will hold a district secretaries’ meeting here on February 17 to discuss party’s organisational elections. In a statement on Monday, DMK general secretary K Anbazhagan said the meeting would be held at the party headquarters — Anna Arivalayam – at 5pm on Feb 17.
The party has recently changed several district secretaries, especially in western districts. The objective of the meeting will be to discuss party’s organisational elections.
The 15th organisational elections will be held from February 21. At the first phase, the elections will be held to elect panchayat branch heads.
