AIADMK calls Kamal as ‘Kaama Haasan’, digs Gauthami issue

Reacting sharply to a video released by Kamal Haasan over the Pollachi sex crime issue in which he blamed the government, the ruling AIADMK today came down heavily on him.

An article in the ruling party’s mouthpiece Namadhu Amma called Kamal as ‘Kaama Haasan’ and took a dig at his personal life. It asked him to explain about the charges made by Gauthami, with whom he was in a live-in relationship.

In his recent video, the Makkal Needhi Maiam founder said, “This recent incident has traumatised the entire state. I still don’t understand how the state government can be so lethargic in approaching the case. Doesn’t such cruel incident shock them? The government which is quick in denying that the accused are no way connected to their political party does not show the immediacy in promising the public that the accused will be punished severely.

The government which claims that the SP handling the case revealed the name of the victim/complainant in a press conference by mistake is silent on the issue despite a Supreme Court ruling which says revealing the victim’s identity is wrong.

Adding to that, videos related to the victim get leaked in the next two days after she complained, how does this happen? When the police claim that the videos shot by the accused have been deleted by them, how does this video come out? Who is leaking it? The government has allowed the police to attack the girls and students who are protesting against injustice.

There is a limit for everything. I am not asking this as a leader of a political party, I am asking this question as father of two women. What is this government going to do to correct all these mistakes it has committed (relating to the case)? Are the videos getting leaked to stop more victims coming forward?

The punishment you are going to give to the accused is not mere punishment but a strong statement and hope to the people of the state that the government won’t let go off accused if they commit similar crime. When will this government do that?”
