With the monsoon fast approaching, the Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation Limited (TANGEDCO) has issued an advisory to residents with a view to ensuring public safety.
Residents have been advised not to touch power cables or conductors that have snapped and have been urged to immediately report such instances to the nearest TANGEDCO office.
Elaborating the work done, a statement said, ‘Every year, we get down to work even before the onset of showers. This time too, we have formed special teams to coordinate and implement measures that will prevent electrocutions and other untoward incidents during the north-east monsoons”.
“We are repairing and replacing old, damaged power cables and transformers. Trees are being pruned, while hanging wires are being elevated or replaced. All this is being done on a war-foot basis at different places across the state”, they said.
Maintenance work has been carried out for distribution transformers, damaged poles have been replaced and the height of electric pillar boxes in low-lying areas has been raised.
Officials have asked people to inform the nearest electricity board office in cases of emergencies such as short-circuit.
